The ya-olo or water chimpanzee was a cryptohominid reported from Liberia, allegedly a nocturnal, semiaquatic primate. According to an informant of Ivan T. Sanderson's, Liberians described it as an ape the size of a chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), with a thick black coat, head hair compared to that of the Diana monkey (Cercopithecus diana), and clawed, leopard-like feet. It was reputed to hunt animals during the night, biting its prey's nostrils and sucking out its blood.
