Ituri black ratel, PZSL 1906

1906 engraving of a black honey badger from the Ituri Rainforest.

The too or tu was a bear-like cryptid reported from East Africa by Hans Schomburgk, who described it as a black-furred animal the size of a goat, with dog-like teeth.[1] Bernard Heuvelmans theorized that it may have been a melanistic or elderly honey badger (Melivora capensis), which lose the silvery colouration on their backs as they increase in age and in size.[2]
