The simba ya mail ("water lion") or simba ya mai is a water lion reported from the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Lubudi River, a tributary of the Lualaba.[1] It is often synonymised with the ntambo wa luy and the ntambue ya maï.[2] In the 1950's, Charles Mahauden was warned by locals to avoid a certain stretch of the Lubudi on account of the simba ya mail, which was said to capsize canoes and eat the occupants.[1]
