The type I sail-finned is a Champagne type of sea serpent appearing in sightings from the northwest Atlantic Ocean until 1912. Bruce A. Champagne classifies it as a possible new species of 30' to 70' beaked whale, distinguished by a small head and a large dorsal fin.[1] According to Dale A. Drinnon, animals assignable to this type have also been reported from the Pacific Ocean.[2]
