Paulus Edward Pieris Deraniyagala (1900-1976) was a Sri Lankan paleontologist and zoologist who named several species, both recognized and some that remain unconfirmed.[1][2] He saw a tiger skin in an Egyptian bazaar that he was told was from Sudan, where no known species of tigers are known.[3]
