Massie aka Giant Crayfish of Lake Mashu is a crustacean cryptid reported from Lake Mashu, Hokkaido, Japan.

In 1975, an employee of the Hokkaido Fisheries Department was shown a giant crayfish that had been caught by a friend's father. This one was 1 meter in length, and the body alone was reported to have been 50 centimeters long. He offered to make a specimen of it, but was turned down, and he also offered to take a picture of it, but this was also refused.[1]

In 1978, a trout poacher caught a 2-foot crayfish. However, this capture was illegal, so the claim could not be verified. [2]

In 1985, similar to the 1978 case, a poacher caught a 2-foot crayfish. [2]

On October 19, 2012, a video of the specimen, which was reportedly filmed at Lake Mashu, was uploaded to YouTube. The video shows an object moving on the surface of the lake, and the photographer stated that at first he thought it was a deer swimming, but the object was faster than a boat. [3]

In 2014, a series of tracks of some sort of organism were found at the bottom of the lake at a depth of 211 meters. It is believed to be the tracks of a crayfish-like organism. Previously, the deepest record of an organism in Lake Mashu was found in 1974 when a lake flies larva was found at a depth of 176 meters.[4]
