The Loch Ness Monster, also known as Nessie, is a famous cryptid said to live in the depths of Loch Ness, a large freshwater body located in the Scottish Highlands. Supposed reports of the monster date from the 7th Century AD[1] all the way until the 2020s[2]. Considerable efforts have been made to both prove the animal's existence and offer explanations for the sightings, and the monster has been the subject of many books and movies, both nonfictional and fictional.
The Loch Ness Monster's described appearance has varied between sightings, but it is classically portrayed as a large aquatic animal with a long neck and smooth skin, resembling a plesiosaur.
