The liombikalela was a cryptid ungulate reported from western Zambia and northern Botswana by the explorer David Livingstone (1813 – 1873). According to one of his boatmen, who claimed to have seen one, this was a semi-aquatic animal, "with long wide spreading horns like an ox".[1] Livingstone believed it to be a relative of the "bison," referring to the gaur (Bos gaurus) of India.[2] Modern sources describe it as a mythological water bull.[1]
