Kou-teign-koo-rou (San: "lord of the water") was a cryptid reported from Southern Africa. It was said to be a swamp-dwelling animal bigger and stronger than a hippopotamus, which was formerly captured in very strong traps. According to Hans Schomburgk, there are also depictions of it.[1][2]
