In the Wake of Bernard Heuvelmans: An Introduction to the History and Future of Sea Serpent Classification is a 2008 book on sea serpent classification by Michael A. Woodley, providing updated information and alternative theories regarding the Heuvelmans system created by Bernard Heuvelmans in Le Grand Serpent-de-Mer (1965).

Content[]

Woodley argues that long-necked sea serpents and merhorses could be explained by long-necked seals (in agreement with Heuvelmans), many-finned sea serpents by a large marine arthropleurid, many-humped sea serpents and super-otters by giant sea otters, marine saurians by archaeocetes similar to Basilosaurus and Rodhocetus, and super-eels by oversized oarfishes and frilled sharks.
