In Quest of the Giant Sloth: A Tale of Adventure in South America is a 1902[1] adventure novel by Doctor Gordon Stables, R.N., focusing on the search for a living ground sloth in Patagonia. It also includes a lake monster rather like the Patagonian plesiosaur. The novel may have been inspired by Hesketh Prichard's recent real-life expedition in search of the Patagonian ground sloth.
A humourous paper on the novel, "An Accurate Tally of the Usage of the Word 'The' in In Quest of the Giant Sloth," was published in Annals of Improbable Research.
