The gucheche was a cryptidgiant turtle reported from Zimbabwe's Omay Tribal Trust Land, where it was reputed to dwell in river rapids. The Omay chief Sampakaruma told A. G. Deare that the gucheche, described as "a very large turtle ... about 3 and a half feet high," and dark in colour, emerged from the water at night to feed on vegetation, leaving hippopotamus-like tracks. It was feared for capsizing canoes, but had not been seen since for many decades.[1]
