De Loys' ape is the name given to a spider monkey-like primate shot and photographed in Venezeuala by Swiss geologist François de Loys in 1920. Although the photograph caused some excitement when the story was first published, it is now generally regarded as a hoax showing a spider monkey, but has also been connected with stories of the Mono Grande, the didi, and the mapinguari. The second photograph, allegedly showing the animal alongside people for scale, has never been found.
