Dead sea cow

Steller's sea cow is a famous cryptid sirenian.

The Sirenia are an order of aquatic herbivorous mammals, frequently called sea-cows or sirenians, comprised of two modern families, the marine dugongs in Dugongidae and the marine and freshwater manatees in Trichechidae. Four extant species are currently widely recognised.

In cryptozoology, the sirenians are perhaps most relevant for the popular theory that they may explain sightings of merbeings, particularly mermaids, a theory which gives the order its name. If this is the case, an unknown species of sirenian may exist in the oceans, as many mermaid sightings have been reported from seas where sirenians are not found.[1] Other famous cryptid sirenians include the officially-extinct Steller's sea cow and the supposed Saint Helena manatee.[2]
