Encyclopaedia of Cryptozoology

The Coleman-Huyghe system is a system of categorising sea serpent and lake monster sightings developed by Loren Coleman and Patrick Huyghe. It was the first full system which attempted to categorise not only large unknown sea animals, but also lake monsters,[1] something later attempted by an update to the Champagne system in 2016.

The fourteen Coleman-Huyghe types are the classic sea serpent, waterhorse, mystery cetacean, giant shark, mystery manta, great sea centipede, mystery saurian, cryptid chelonian, mystery sirenian, giant beaver, mystery monitor, dinosauria, mystery salamander, and giant octopus.[1] The mystery cetacean, giant shark, and mystery sirenian categories cover multiple unknown animals.[2]
