The Caspian tiger (Panthera tigris virgata) was a subspecies of tiger native to West and Central Asia. Although traditionally believed to have gone extinct since the 1970's, people in remote regions of Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey assert its continued existence.[1][2]
