The abu sotan was a cryptid felid reported from the mountains near the River Rahad in Sudan. It is considered a regional name for the wobo, which is described as a large tiger-like cat, by authors including Karl Shuker and George Eberhart, as well as by Theodor von Heuglin, who first reported both animals.[1][2][3][4] According to Heuglin, the Sudanese Arabs described it as having a neck of striking length, and light fur marked with large black spots or longitudinal stripes.[4][5]
